Sprouted Buckwheat for Fertility, Pre-Natal and Post-Natal Health
In the spirit of Mother’s Day, we wanted to drop some KNOWLEDGE for you new moms, moms-to-be and friends of mommas. Lil Bucks, perhaps combined with Majka lactation cookies and powders, could be a great gift for your new momma friends. Here’s why:

1. FOLATE IS YOUR FRIEND

Buckwheat is a great source of folate, shown to improve chances of releasing an egg during ovulation. It is also recommended you keep folate levels high for a healthy pregnancy, too. 100g of buckwheat contains 33% of the folate you’ll need in a day! (source)

2. UP YOUR PROTEIN

You’re eating for two, so you obviously need more protein! Generally, it’s recommended to increase your protein by 10g per day, and it’s even better if it comes from a complete protein source. Buckwheat is a complete amino acid protein, and with 6g per serving, this certainly fits the bill!

3. BUCKWHEAT IS LACTOGENIC

This is the big one – you can go crazy with lactation recipes (cookies, granolas, and smoothies, mmm) and adding Lil Bucks will not only add the crunch but also those milk-producing compounds new mommas need! Due to its high polysaccharide content, buckwheat is known as a lactogenic food that supports milk supply.

4. BUCKWHEAT IS GLUTEN-FREE AND LOW IN ARSENIC

Obviously no one wants to be eating high amounts of arsenic, but some can end up in our food just due to the environment. Rice has higher levels of inorganic arsenic than other foods, in part because as rice plants grow, the plant and grain tend to absorb arsenic more readily than other food crops. To reduce reduce infant exposure to inorganic arsenic, the FDA has developed guidelines to encourage pregnant moms to avoid rice during pregnancy. Fortunately, buckwheat contains virtually no arsenic. Lil Bucks’ buckwheat is certified organic as well, ensuring the farms our buckwheat comes from are GMO-free and only contain organic compounds. Buckwheat is a great substitute for rice for sweet and savory options. Try our protein balls for a crunchy snack to swap out rice cakes.

5. BUCKWHEAT IS A GOOD SOURCE OF MANGANESE

Manganese plays an important role in building strong bones for momma and baby! A serving of Lil Bucks includes THIRTY PERCENT of your daily value of manganese, so eat up.

Beyond these mom-forward nutrients, sprouted buckwheat also contains benefits like 5g fiber/serving, 25% of your daily value of magnesium (good for sleep… probably should include this in the list!), and is grain and gluten free. We love the crunch and versatility of these seeds, and think you or the new moms in your life will too! 💙
